We bought a Hexplex!

We bit the bullet, so to speak.

So, as some as our friends know, we've been thinking about buying a property to renovate and rent for many years now.  But between the one million other things that seem to comprise daily life, we've never found the time (nor the right property) to say yes to.  Well, I'm excited to say that we finally found the place!

As I lovingly call her, The Harrison HexPlex (#hexplex is our trending hashtag on instagram) will be a project like nothing we've tackled before.  So, we've started our own littles series about it on the blog, because let's face it, this doesn't quite fall into the DIY category.  (CALLING ALL CONTRACTORS - WE NEED HELP!)  But in the real, we will be attempting some of the projects within this beauty ourselves, bringing it back from the bad reno of the 1990's and restoring some of the original charm and character whenever possible.

What does that mean?  Hardwood floor, lots of molding, hex tile?  Those are the only clues we've found so far to what she originally looked like.  So we may have to use a bit of imagination, but trust us, in the end, the first question you'll be asking is, "Are there any units left available?"

We just closed on the building about two weeks ago, but with tenants living there, we can't get started right away.  But, that does give us some time and opportunity to plan - rather than just busting out the sledgehammer right away.  So, we're setting it up right.  Drawing out plans, writing contractor scopes of work, researching materials and stores to get the best deals, learning about purchasing from wholesalers, writing cost reports and schedules, and so forth.  Every day brings a new learning experience and challenge.  So we hope that you'll enjoy reading about our journey as we go along.

I have to warn you, not everything will be pretty.  (I've already been sporting my Wellies to explore the basement and avoid walking through the literal sewage.)  But the real question of day one is, should it stay or should it go to this lovely message on the back entry?
