At the 2005 Standford University Commencement, Steve Jobs said, “Don't be trapped by dogma—which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice.“
Upon discovering this word, I've given it a lot of thought about what it means to me and how it applies in my own life. I worry that my life and vision for my life has been clouded by the traditional path to the "American Dream." But the real question remains what opportunity is available to you once you've left that path?
Webster's Dictionary defines "dogma" as a doctrine or code of beliefs that are held true without proof. Basically, it's following someone else's code or beliefs without ever questioning it as your own. So for essentially for the rest of the year, I will be undertaking a journey of travel and self-exploration. Making some great decisions, and some that are potentially not so great. But that's all part of the process.
I've started this journey through heading to Africa for seven weeks. As I near the end of week one (by far the most luxurious leg of the trip) - I am filled with amazing memories of family and friends on safari, seeing some of the most incredible animals literally feet away from our land cruiser. There is so much to share, I'm not even sure where to begin. It's exciting and breathtaking and will simply just blow your mind everything there is to see in South Africa.
