Packing for a Safari

Packing for any extended trip is tough, but especially challenging when you've never gone on a trip like it before!  Packing for our family trip to Africa was that challenge for me.

Having just seen Princess Kate just complete her safari with Prince William in nothing less their her usual splendid style, I felt overwhelmed.

Now, I assumed the basic rules of dressing for a safari were match the environment - mainly wearing khaki and army green.  But if Princess Kate can wear a pink dress, do I need to reconsider my whole strategy?

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Polka dots, on a safari ride!  Like seriously?  So many options now await!

Harder to see:  Her sporting some super cute, army green skinnies with some killer zippers and cream boat shoes.

Where are her boots?

And glass slippers?

Don't forget the best accessory... your drinking glass!

Okay, now pairing this down to the average person - who has to carry her own suitcase.  I decided to embrace comfort over style at many points, bringing pieces that could mix and match with neutrals and black.  I may not be winning any fashions awards, but I was warm (or cool) enough and very comfortable.

Here's some of the pieces that I would recommend others packing for a safari to bring along:
