Five Wardrobe Must-Haves for May

Every spring brings new life -- to your yard, yes, but why not also to your wardrobe? This year, I’ve decided to be a bit more adventurous and stock my closet with 5 new items to wear this spring and summer. Here are my must-haves for May; follow the links for purchase info!

1. The (Simple) Crop Top

Because I couldn’t be counted on to go too far outside the box, I decided to keep my first crop top simple.

White with a little bit of texture for interest, this one from Bar III at Macy’s was right up my alley. (And on sale). It's loosely fitted, so it's a great option to emphasize your waist.

Another enticing option is this crop top with cut-outs from Express. I haven't purchased it (yet) but this is a trend that's growing (shrinking?) on me.

2. Printed Palazzo Pants

It's time for pattern in a big, bold way. There are tons of these in-store right now, it's just a matter of scoping out the right pair to fit your taste.

One pair that I found was by Xhilaration at Target, or you can try the Pelago Floral Palazzo Pant from Francesca’s. I went for a dark color and slightly slimmer fit, because I felt it was the most flattering for my figure.

No matter how cute the pattern, it's a flop without a good fit.

3. Mid-Heel Wedges

One of the things that I am most thankful have come into style this spring is the mid-heel. My feet are even more thankful than I am!

I looked for a nice neutral so I could pair them with anything. The Kyndra Demi Platform Wedge by Lucky Brand Shoes was just what I was looking for.

Finally a pair of shoes that I can last in all night!

4. Cute, Funky Tennies

To continue my new theme of loving the outdoors, I had to add these semi-funky, mildly preppy tennis shoes to the wardrobe. I can pair them with anything from a sundress to denim. This pair is the Seacoast by Sperry’s Top Sider, purchased on zappos.com.

Again, there are so many options out. You can choose a simple iteration that pairs with everything, like mine, or branch out with another big, bold color.

5. Bright Blazer

Nothing screams "Springtime!" louder than bright colors. In an effort to get more than just weekend of wear out of my last "May" Must-Have, I opted for a piece that could also be worn to work: something with a classic cut, but a bold color. I chose this bright yellow blazer from Kensie, available at various stores including Nordstrom and Macy's.
